Changes to Certification in BC

As of January 2020, WorkSafe BC (reference: 13.23, 14.71 and 20.47) and the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) have released a professional practice guideline titled “Annual Equipment Inspection and Certification in British Columbia.” This guideline provides a standard of practice for equipment certifications in British Columbia introducing changes to industry standards. Kova Engineering is obligated to abide by this guideline.

As per the guideline, the following equipment will require engineering certification of not only the structure, but the mechanical and controls as well:

  • Articulating Boom Cranes (Articulating Cranes) (ASME B30.22-2005)
  • Concrete Pump and Placing Boom Masts (CSA Z151-09 (C2014))
  • Fire Truck Aerial Devices (NFPA 2014)
  • Mobile Cranes (Truck Mounted, Conventional, All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Carrydeck, Mechanics, Mini Crane) (CSA Z150-98; B30.5)
  • Self-Propelled Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms (Manlifts) (CAN/CSA B364.6:17)
  • Vehicle-Mounted Elevating Work Platforms (Aerial Lifts, Sign Trucks) (CAN/CSA C225)
